The Friends of Fred organization will host the "Shotgun Fred BBQ Showdown" to honor and remember their late friend, founder of the BBQ Guru and Therm-Omega-Tech, Inc. During his struggle with ALS he asked his friends to make sure that they held a Kansas City Barbecue Society (KCBS) sanctioned contest each year to raise funds to contribute to his scholarship at SHSU.
The KCBS sanctioned event will be held from February 26 - February 28, 2015 and boasts $10,000 in prize money. This event has already received entries from the top BBQ teams in the nation, and is expected to qualify teams for the American Royal. One of the top competitions in the nation.
